ABSTRACT
One of the most powerful, driving forces behind technological advancement has been the military. Aside from needing tools for hunting and agriculture, human invention, ingenuity, and innovation have focused greatly, almost obsessively, on designing weapons and military-specific tools. Urbanization, social complexity, and communal living are often considered to be progressive and beneficial, but they also created the potential for conflict between competing entities. This chapter will discuss some of the weapons, tools, and battle tactics observed in the ancient Near East.
