This recipe is not for permanent silence in class, but to stop students talking when you need them to listen, and to keep noise levels at a reasonable level. Shouting at students raises the overall noise level and is exhausting. The quieter you are, the quieter they are likely to be. Guidance and practice will be needed to understand what level is appropriate when.
