ABSTRACT

There are different levels of sexualized behaviour in the classroom. The most common is where behaviour is inappropriate, and although demeaning to students it is not actively abusive. It includes sexualized language, jokes and sharing of information. Consensual touching in class also falls into this category. One step further from this is exhibitionism and other provocative behaviour, including sexual verbal abuse. Of most concern is behaviour that is actively abusive involving harassment, touching and threat. All are unacceptable, but the last is most serious and requires action at a senior level.
