ABSTRACT

It is not natural for young children to keep still for long periods of time. When children are not allowed to roll over, stretch, hop on one foot, bend or bounce then the desire to move may become overwhelming and the least they can do is fidget! All children need to be up and out of their chairs at least once every half hour, even for only a couple of minutes. Apart from anything else it will stimulate their cognitive skills. Sometimes making noises has the same purpose as fidgeting. This may be annoying but also be part of normal behaviour. It is unlikely to be a deliberate ploy to disrupt or gain attention.
