ABSTRACT

The article examines in turn the various critical essays on his work. He concentrates initially on two essays posing different but complex problems: Casanova on the author’s work on Pentecostalism and Repstad on his sociology of music. With regard to the rest, he responds to the key issues raised in variable depth. There are also linking passages indicating areas not covered in the book: cultural critiques; in articles, letters, reviews; regular columns in major Anglo-American journals like Encounter; and three volumes of sermons.
