ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses several real-life examples of individuals who successfully acted on their values in legal settings. The managing partner of the litigation department, Ted O'Connell, gathered the 40 attorneys together in the clubhouse to divide them into foursomes. Ted said, "We need a babe on each team to make sure all the foursomes are equally handicapped." The police report landed on Jamal's desk early one Monday morning. An 18-month-old child had been killed by a neighborhood ice cream truck. The brevity of the report did not match the gravity of the event. Mario Schmidt learned that Jackie Hoover acted as a reference for Tammy Drotar. Jackie said Tammy was an excellent employee and she had an obligation to provide an honest reference if Tammy did not want to remain at Lumiere & Glover. Two years later, Jackie realized that the reference policy was one of many areas of disagreement, as Mario continued to make questionable decisions.
