ABSTRACT

This chapter explains the principle of operation of an electrodynamic loudspeaker and describes the main components of a direct current motor's stator and rotor. The English physicist Michael Faraday showed that the opposite of 'motor action' also occurs. The more luxurious the vehicle, the more electric motors there tend to be – for example, it may have motors which adjust the position of its seating. The chapter explores the main components of an electrodynamic loudspeaker, and specify the function of each and also explains the principle of operation of an electrodynamic loudspeaker. It also describes the difference between the output torque of a shunt- and series-wound direct current motor and examines why the starting current of a direct current motor can be high, and how it may be reduced.
