ABSTRACT
Friction based additive manufacturing techniques are hybrid in nature, possessing the versatility and utility of both solid-state friction joining and layer-by-layer manufacturing techniques. The spectrum of applications of individual technologies is thus expanded immensely. This chapter covers various applications of these FATs based upon the underlying strategy, that is, friction joining based, friction deposition based and friction stir welding based. A list of current and future applications is presented in tabular form. The chapter concludes with a discussion of the applications and challenges of FATs.
