ABSTRACT

This introduction presents an overview of keyconcepts discussed in the subsequent chapters of this book. The book presents different theoretical underpinnings for the notion of assemblage and underlines the nature and practice of the collaboration between different specialisms present in the Catalhoyuk project. It discusses the experience of the multiscalar and multifaceted research process at the Neolithic settlement in Catalhoyuk in Central Anatolia. The book shows how to build a robust argument that expands the understanding of different aspects of Catalhoyuk and its people. It also discusses character of the social interactions, politics, and production of knowledge in the project, as a form of assemblage of researchers representing wide-ranging disciplinary traditions. The book addresses multi-disciplinary evidence and approaches to social practices and lifestyles at Catalhoyuk. It offers a large number of visualizations exploring details of the lifecycle of one of the distinct dwelling structures.
