ABSTRACT

The various anniversaries of the War of Succession to the throne of Spain commemorated recently have led to a marked increase in studies and publications on this historic event — an event currently considered as one of the pivotal facts. A different work, with a political and legal approach to the crucial date of 1707 and, in general, to the so-called regimen de nueva planta, a key feature in the history of the Crown of Aragon, is that of Jose Maria Inurritegue. The displeasure of Louis XIV, with respect to the situation in Spain, induced him to summon the princess and Orry, two of the most unpopular ministers in the Spanish court, back to Paris. The chapter explains how the news of the Battle of Almansa multiplied in the Valencia media, following the increase in freedom of expression in 1977; and that, although most comments about the battle published between 1940 and 1977 have a neutral or pro-Bourbon approach.
