ABSTRACT
Horseshoes have attracted the attention of many writers, but in the absence of securely dated examples most of their texts are at best merely speculation. Ward Perkins’ study (1967, 112–117) is the first to be based on dated horseshoes, although most of the later medieval examples are drawn from Continental sites.
