ABSTRACT

The 'document' that forms the centre of this article is an extract lasting two and a half minutes from a programme shown on Italian television in 1960 and now in the archives of the RAI. 1 In it, a group of women in a small town (not identified in the programme) in northern Sicily recount to the programme presenter, Mario Soldati, a fotoromanzo in instalments that they have been reading recently in the weekly magazine Bolero Film.
