ABSTRACT

The growing need for psychodynamic coaching results from escalating demands on leaders in response to the so-called “Fourth Industrial Revolution” and the “Second Machine Age”. Psychodynamic coaching can also support the process of understanding and developing political thinking in organisations, since the mechanisms of micro-politics are closely connected with the personal skills. Strategic thinking can also be improved, since considering an uncertain future stirs up emotions and activates all kinds of biases which can be more readily identified with advanced personal skills. Psychodynamic coaching therefore supports the development of personal skills and drives and implements change on an individual as well as organisational level. The more uncertain the situations that demand assertiveness and clear decision-making, the more personal skills are required on a leadership level to contain and manage the ambivalence.
