ABSTRACT

This chapter highlights the need for feedback and how sports performance analysis may need to be implemented in an elite sporting environment, to have an impact on the coaching process. It aims to bridge the gap between academia and the elite support environment, for analysis, drawing upon experience and guidance of an analyst, with nine years’ experience. Performance analysis is needed because objective feedback in sports performance is required as a coach may only remember 40–59 per cent, depending on their experience and the part of performance they are recollecting. Time pressures not only influence the type of analysis that is carried out, but also the different levels of information available to practitioners and researchers. In terms of match analysis, work is generally split into pre-match, live and post-match analysis external data sets and primarily capturing bespoke data as a performance analysis team.
