ABSTRACT

Many believe in the biological argument that women are predisposed to be caregivers or in the primary role as supporters, with a fragile nature which requires that they be protected. Women's vulnerability to all things dangerous mandates that they be protected, because they are victims who function best and are more appropriately suited as the caregivers, nurturers and supporters of men in society. Supporters of women's full integration into the military, still most controversially into occupations designated as combat; have essentially blunted especially the biological argument that women should not serve in these roles. The myth about military women that has been perpetuated is that because they are primarily caregivers, their role as mothers is imperiled. The regressive beliefs only manage to willfully subordinate the inalienable rights and contributions of more than one-half of the country's citizenry, who are women, while undermining America's standing as the leader of the free world.
