ABSTRACT

The women overwhelmingly saw military service as one of the most demonstrable ways in which to exemplify love of country and patriotism. Mazur suggests that while it is the military's responsibility to make the cultural and systematic changes, it is equally women's responsibility never to cloak themselves from the robes of victims. Mazur believes that some of the responsibility in order to be seen to renounce the perception of victimhood lies with women. In accordance with agency theory, to achieve partial agency is also to be perceived as equally compromised. But this middle-of-the-road and tenuous status still makes one not entirely responsible for the oppression that they experience. However, the military woman falls victim because when all is said and done, she is still being deprived of full agency. Many of the women veterans believe that, they have fallen short of translating their achievements in the military by parlaying such experiences into the civilian sector.
