ABSTRACT

The town of Las Lajitas, located in the nucleus of North-west Argentina's soy production, is the main case of studying environmental justice incommensurabilities within this book. In order to contrast varying outcomes depending on the application of different thought styles, the CLASSIC and the ALTERNATIVE approach are elaborated on. The former is based on the presumption that conflicts do occur, leading to the compilation of a map of conflict (potentials) in the town. The ALTERNATIVE approach applies the environmental justice incommensurabilities framework, creates four different panopticonesque supra-actors to identify thought styles on soy production and its effects, forms of claims making and their respective (non-)materialisation into social-ecological conflicts.
