ABSTRACT
This is the period after completion of the first year of study until attainment of candidacy, signified by successful completion of the comprehensive or qualifying exams. During this time, the student continues with coursework, completes the comprehensive or qualifying exam, identifies a dissertation topic, selects a dissertation advisor and committee, and prepares and defends a dissertation proposal (Ali & Kohun, 2007).
