ABSTRACT

After completing the comprehensive exams, students usually feel exhausted, and inertia can set in. It is important to set goals and give yourself meaningful rewards for meeting those goals. Every student will find (or create) her own most effective way of completing the work of the dissertation. The following are some considerations that will help you in developing your best strategy:

1. Create a workspace in your home: This should be a place where you can study, read, and write. Think about what you will need to make this your haven. If you don’t have a spot at home, then you might consider a study carrel space at the college’s library or your local public library. Think about how you work-are you an early riser, or a late nighter? How will that impact the space where you need to work? Discuss with your family the boundaries of this space-who can come in, when (if ever), and so forth.
