ABSTRACT
This stage consists of transition into employment in the academy or other venues related to the student’s field of study and includes a further acculturation period as the individual learns, for example, firsthand about the hierarchy within academic departments, as well as the relative emphasis on the three pillars of academic life-research, teaching, and service.
