ABSTRACT

The challenge of an ageing society for planning starts with a consideration of the various stages and activity levels of older peoples’ lives, including those who continue to work and are active in arts and cultural pursuits. The implications of an ageing society for planning include working, housing including downsizing, changing household patterns, changing housing requirements and income, mental health including dementia, leisure, transport and wellbeing. The chapter concludes with some approaches for planning for older people.
