Learning about oneself, learning about one's museum, and learning about one's community are continual processes. The Community Involvement Action Plan brings that information together. The team that is developing the community involvement action plan will consult with museum leadership and staff to determine which areas are of highest priority. The team that creates the community involvement action plan will incorporate specific action steps. Creating partnerships with community organizations is an effective way to establish and nurture the relationships with community members. Leadership and staff may want to work with the volunteers to empower them to be advocates for the museum in the community and advocates for the community in the museum. The Brooklyn Historical Society is an urban history center in a landmark building completed in 1881. Thanksgiving Point Institute highlights an organization that considers, learns about, and involves its communities as it focuses on being a good neighbor.
