ABSTRACT

This chapter describes how three active and experienced product innovator firms organise for the purpose of speedily bringing new products to market. The methods used are described predominantly in the words of persons in these firms who are intimately involved in product innovation. This instrument division is one of the most innovative firms within the instrument industry. It is part of the US-owned Hewlett-Packard concern which is one of the world's most progressive companies in terms of management practices. There is a formally issued organisation chart at the Instrument Division, but it is frequently out of date Fluke is among the largest firms in test and measurement instrument manufacturing with a broad product line. Established in 1948 in the basement of Mr & Mrs John Fluke's home in Connecticut the company employs over 3000 people and moved into a prestigious new headquarters in Seattle, Washington.
