Your initial situation is grim and illustrates the distressing logic of important concepts in the social sciences and conundrums inherent to surviving in an uncertain world. You have to gather enough Resources to survive both today and in the future while weighing the merits of going it alone, grouping up, or even stealing from a neighbor. As the rounds of the game progress, you will interact through structured exchanges to advance up the ladder of civilization toward government, but not all may like the idea of a sovereign. The winners will be those who gather the most Resources, whether under the protection of a state or through the freedom of the state of nature.
