ABSTRACT

Enlarging on the topic of the balance between strengths and tasks, this chapter adds a focus on the capacity to tolerate uncertainty. How can analysts acknowledge the subjectivity of all human experience, at the same time as we maintain a strong enough belief in our particular clinical perspective? Striving to recognize our subjectivity and still maintain adequate therapeutic conviction, analysts experience a quandary that we all face, in every walk of life. This provides a therapeutic opportunity to mutually explore this fundamental human challenge as it manifests in sessions.
