ABSTRACT

The conclusion collates the main points raised and discussed throughout the book. To start with, however, brief attention is paid to the nature of the academic book and how Youth Sport, Migration and Culture aspires to be not only a book that can be ‘broken’, as many academic books generally are, but also one that conveys meaningful life stories. The issue of ‘belonging’ of youth with a migrant background, central to most of the book, is seen against the backdrop of the changes that have occurred in Ireland over the last few years. These changes have impacted the social and economic life of its society, but important changes have also taken place in the field of sport, particularly football. The cultural question of Ireland and the role of the Irish state in its articulation are taken into consideration, with the aim of highlighting connections and intersections that filter through the youth sport system and affect young people’s lives and imaginaries.
