ABSTRACT

This chapter reviews the strategies that are necessary for planning for and assessing children with SEND in PE. In any PE lesson the importance of setting suitable learning challenges through clear expectations, knowledge of individual children, flexibility, and a commitment to modification and adaptive practices is essential. As a result, if we plan our teaching and objectives around these central principles we should employ the same strategies in relation to assessing children with SEND. The chapter will help teachers and schools to review their understanding of what, why, and how we assess children in PE, whilst assisting them to consider diverse strategies to ensure individuals have the best chance to demonstrate competence in PE.
