ABSTRACT

In the recent development of the traditional Jiangnan cities, river networks are confronted by degraded conditions, and the city image and identity of a water town has continued to blur. The public space of waterfront areas are primary factors for restoring hydrophilic properties in Jiangnan cities. This research takes land use specification as references, and recategorizes urban waterfront spaces according to the relationships between urban land and river channels. It proposed updated methods to help promote proportional relationships between these land uses.
