ABSTRACT

This chapter combines a theoretical framing concerning the benefits of internationalization in inclusive teacher education programs in a global world with two practical issues: First, the chapter gives a broader idea of internationalization at home with the innovative project “International Teacher Education Laboratory” which took place at the University of Cologne (2013–2015). The main goal of this project was to develop inclusive values through e-portfolio work: Teacher education students worked on “inclusive activities,” like writing, drawing and reflecting about diverse ideas and imaginations connected with their imaginations and beliefs of being a learner and a teacher in an inclusive learning environment and shared them with international peers via e-learning formats and face-to-face meetings. Secondly, an experiential view of eight teacher education students from the University of Eastern Finland (Joensuu), who tell their “story” about their practicum experiences at German schools. They reflect their professional role as future teachers in inclusive contexts and what they have learned by their practice period abroad.
