ABSTRACT

In the age of Big Data, reports about data analyses in competitive sports are to be found everywhere. And it seems that in many sports by this time the people responsible have acquired a taste for it, just like in the famous Moneyball case we know from baseball. This chapter tries to see the bigger picture and showcases usage of positional data in other sports, including baseball, ice hockey, field hockey, beach volleyball, and tennis. Renowned experts give an insight into the status quo of their sport, including sabermetrics guru Chuck Korb (Boston Bruins), Ulrich Forstner (German national hockey team), Daniel Link (TU Munich/German Volleyball Association), and Dominik Meffert (former top-200 tennis player).
