ABSTRACT

This chapter presents a profile of Ms. Indu Singhal. Talking about the most important factor that determines an organization’s success in deriving substantial and sustained results from its quality initiatives, Ms. Singhal speaks about her experiences and highlights the role of benchmarking in achieving excellence in organizations. The chapter provides benchmarking best practices and specifically discusses the United Arab Emirates experience with benchmarking. Benchmarking may be done within the region or within the industry. The Emirates Business Management benchmarking visits take participants to the gemba of host organizations to learn best practices through live demonstrations on their premises. The performance measures and indicators available through induction program facilitate benchmarking and comparisons, both for target setting and for stimulating controlled business growth itself. Benchmarking is a process that enables an organization to study industry data and to use that data as an internal gauge to measure itself against.
