ABSTRACT

This chapter deals with various ways in which two or more lenses are mounted together to form optomechanical subassemblies or assemblies. Methods of establishing the proper spacing between elements and associated tolerances are discussed. Next are techniques for analyzing thermal effects on lens systems, including optical changes in focus, thermal stress in components, and preload variation with temperature. Lathe and subcell assemblies, as well as plastic lens assemblies, are covered.
