ABSTRACT

A "democratic revolution" is a massive shift of power from the political and economic elite to the great majority of the people through legal and peaceful means. On the contrary, the economy would be at full employment, with a high level of economic equality and a strong democratic process. That is a good definition of a democratic revolution. Conservative governments have certain primary principles. These principles are: transfer as much political power as possible to the wealthy elite, who are about 1 percent of the population; and transfer as much economic power as possible to the same wealthy elite. This chapter outlines that these principles underlie the specific, progressive policies. These policies are: free healthcare, free higher education, Infrastructure, a living wage and trade unions, progressive taxation, end discrimination, democratization of corporations "too big to fail", democratization of the military-industrial complex, and a strong and democratic global organization.
