ABSTRACT

The focus of Chapter 4 is the importance of the normal curve and its relevance to the field of statistics. Many observed characteristics in nature are normally distributed. However, comparisons among data distributions, even when they all conform to the shape described by the normal curve, are difficult when the units of measurement are different and the data have differing descriptive statistics values. Important attributes of the normal curve are explained in detail. The normal curve is so fundamentally important that the ability to use and understand its characteristics are crucial to interpret statistical tests. Details about and practice with the normal-curve table are presented in this chapter.
