ABSTRACT

In Chapter 6 several terms used in inferential statistics are defined and described. In addition, several data sampling techniques used by researchers and the procedures involved in hypothesis testing are outlined. How hypotheses are stated and how they are evaluated by using standard errors, confidence intervals, and probability is explained. The introduction of the one-sample case to determine if the mean of a sample is equal to a known or hypothesized mean, occurs in this chapter and represents the first statistical test presented. The concepts identified in this chapter are fundamental to all inference testing which is the focus of the remainder of the textbook.
