ABSTRACT

Last evening, at the Independent Chapel, Bedford Row,112 at eight o’clock, a lecture was given upon the horrors and cruelty of negro slavery by a fugitive slave, who afforded in his own person a striking refutation of one of the grounds upon which the slaveholder upholds his diabolical traffic – namely, the inferiority of the intellect of the negro race, for so clever a speaker it has rarely fallen to our lot to hear; and certainly in his exterior manner, he is far superior to the majority of slave holders as he is in intellectual endowments.
