ABSTRACT

This chapter explains the process through which Teaching for Understanding was effectively used to create high-interest, project-based learning experiences that focus on the global competencies and engage students in solving global issues. Through this chapter, the project-based learning experience, Order in the Court, is examined as a rich example that inspires readers to think differently about their curriculum so they may consider ways to skillfully integrate disciplines while following their students’ lead. Order in the Court is an example of a hands-on learning experience educators can adapt to drive students to identify community problems and develop problem-solving skills as they debate perspectives of civic and ecological issues.
