ABSTRACT

In this chapter, we describe how we worked with teachers in an online course that encouraged reflection, collaboration, and sense of community in order to build a culture of understanding. We developed these principles in our work with schools in Bogota and our engagement with some ideas of Project Zero. Another inspiration was Constance Kamii’s article, Autonomy: The Aim of Education Envisioned by Piaget (1982) which eloquently articulates what the task of educating individuals, from infancy to adulthood, meant for us as educators. At the end, we realized that the online environment puts the responsibility on the learner and that teamwork helps ensure that the experience is neither frustrating nor solitary.
