ABSTRACT
Agriculture in the U.S. Midwest stands to be greatly affected by changes in the climate: Shifting temperature, seasonal patterns and precipitation regimes will affect plant growth, yields, soil quality, and insect and disease outbreaks. Extension can play an important role in helping farmers manage and adapt to these changes. In this chapter, the authors share how they incorporated methods guided by climate change communication research across a diversity of activities aimed at engaging farmers and agricultural professionals in dialogue around climate change. The work highlights the diversity of ways in which professionals such as Extension educators may address climate change to help communities adapt to and mitigate the changing climate.
