ABSTRACT

The programme of pre-basic education includes physical nurture, medical care, personal and community cleanliness and health, self-help, social training, creative activities, speech training, the development of the mathematical sense, nature-study, art and music. The post-basic school should lead on naturally either to the responsibilities of adult family life in one or other of the normal productive occupations of humanity, or to some form of professional training in a University. The social aspect of education has been put first in the statement of objectives because of the intimate connection between the practice of education and the social philosophy on which it is based. A syllabus in gardening and agriculture cannot, for obvious reasons, be laid down in detail on an all-India basis. In normal conditions, a child attends school in his own village, and so his home life and activities should also be included in the educational programme.
