ABSTRACT

This chapter presents extracts from report of the General Committee on Public Instruction of the Presidency of Fort William in Bengal for the year 1839–40. The report argues for the use of the vernacular medium in schools and for the formation of a body of vernacular literature. It suggests the need to connect Zillah Schools with the Central Colleges for the improvement of the pupils of the Zillah Schools.
