ABSTRACT
The first issue to tackle is the idea of sportization and see where our reasoning will take us. When split, we arrive at the two words or concepts that are ‘sport’ and ‘-ization’. Perhaps it is best to start with the latter of the two. In Eliasian terms, any concept ending with ‘-ization’ denotes a process of becoming to a greater or smaller degree. In more popular terms, it could be synonymous with ‘the becoming of’. In this case, it can be argued that sportization refers to the ‘becoming of a sport’ of an activity. The philosophical and sociological literature on the concept of ‘sport’ leads to several important and interesting questions.
