ABSTRACT

The introduction sets the scene and context relating to masculinities, sexualities and love, showing how there is a lack of published work on the intersection of these areas. I also introduce the research methods and methodologies adopted in the book, outlining the sample size, characteristics of the sample, and talking briefly about the men whom I interviewed. A qualitative methodology was adopted, so as to interview gay and bisexual men. Interviews had ranged from 1 hour to 5 hours long. These conversations with the men were unstructured interviews, designed to elicit information about the ways in which the men construct and define love. The interviews allowed the men to talk openly and freely about their views and experiences of love, sex and sexuality. The introduction will close by outlining the structure of the rest of the book. By the end, this introduction will motivate readers to learn more about the neglected phenomenon of love as a social and cultural construction.
