ABSTRACT
This chapter critically reviews and interprets the existing literature surrounding men, masculinities and love to set the scene and to provide some context. Reviewing the background literature in relation to these concepts is useful to highlight how there is a gap in the literature for my book. Particular focus is given to the interconnection between masculinity and love. For example, are men able to fall in love? If so, in what contexts? How do they express love in these contexts or are they just interested in sex? I discuss sexual promiscuity in relation to hegemonic masculinity, which is the leading and societal ideal form of masculinity.
