ABSTRACT

This chapter describes and analyzes how African sport broadcasting is affected by the transformation of the mediascape. The first part of the chapter is an overview of the history of the first two decades of television broadcasting across the continent. The following part discusses the transformations leading to the establishment of transnational television broadcasters. This chapter covers how the broadcasters shaped the mediascape and determined sport television broadcasting across the continent. The final segment of the chapter analyzes the role of new entrants and their consequences on the evolution of sport television broadcasting in Africa.
