ABSTRACT

The aerostructure manufacturing facility under investigation in this research has a long and complicated history. Composit Materials, Inc. has long been the primary provider for the aluminum sheeting that is needed in the construction of many types of aircraft. The new Composit facility would be built from scratch and would not suffer from any potential Composit internal bureaucracy. Composit’ construction of this facility for aerospace contracts has paid off handsomely. The “agile” plan was to take full advantage of the Just-In-Time capabilities of Composit Labs and add the additional features of Electronic Data Interchange specifically for the aerospace industry. The technical work of the Arrowplane-Composit project was fully underway by March 1994. The technical issues with the Arrowplane-Composit project were completed in May 1994 on schedule and the Arrowplane design team began looking for optimum ways to measure progress and cost savings.
