ABSTRACT

This chapter describes the attributes of the organisational business systems and processes. It outlines the requirements for a lean and efficient Business Management System (BMS) that needs to be continually refined and updated to address the real operational risks. A sizeable firm needs the business systems and processes to support the delivery of projects through effective planning and managing, adding value to the provision of these services while mitigating risks through flawless execution. With the evolution of many professional services firms over many years, their BMS has become an amalgam of forms, and procedures, processes which have often become unwieldy, a significant burden, and a handbrake on the business. Building Information Management is more rightfully known as an Owner's information management system. It is intended to capture all project and asset information, documentation and data digitally across the project life cycle from planning, design, construction to operations and maintenance.
