ABSTRACT

ABSTRACT: The aim of the study is to explore the contribution of the school culture and the learner factors to the success of the students in learning English with e-learning Quipper School. By using an ethnographic case study design and six successful e-learners as the subjects of the study, the fundamental finding was the high academic performance culture of the school critically contributed to the students’ motivation to succeed e-learning. In the learner’s factor aspects, the students’ motivation became the most critical success factor that contributed to the success of the students in the national e-learning competition and in learning English through e-learning. The use of the ethnography for classroom research studies is still new in Indonesia. Hence, it will give a big implication to change the mindset of the Indonesian researchers to apply an ethnographic approach and it also influences the government policies to support the e-learning implementation.
