ABSTRACT

People need to be responsible for their own actions. These strategies are suggestions of possible ways of acting that have worked for some people in the past. The strategies that follow have been organised in seven categories, namely: practical and everyday ideas, schools, parents and guardians, community approaches, telling someone, cyberbullying and fun or unusual ideas. Teasing can be a form of bullying. Use fogging only for verbal bullying such as teasing and name calling. A bully will often use a question instead of a statement as their form of attack. Research has shown that people are at a higher risk of being bullied if they have poor assertiveness skills and low self-esteem. People bully for many reasons, and some people bully without even knowing that they are bullying. Supporting and helping the bully to recognise their actions and how they might change is often more productive than punishment.
