ABSTRACT

In clause 6 he sets out in detail, the status of the Kabaka and his recognition by H. M.’s Government as the Native Ruler of his people (“under Her Majesty’s protection and overrule”) over whom he is to exercise direct rule and to whom he is to administer justice through the various Courts of his Chiefs in Buganda,– the Lukiko Court being the Supreme Native Court of Justice-subject to certain restrictions and supervision by H.M.’s Principal Court of Justice established in Buganda Kingdom. In the same clause, the Kabaka’s annual allowance is guaranteed by H. M.’s Government not to be less than £1,500. It is also provided in this clause that at the age of 18 years the Kabakas of Buganda shall be considered to have attained their Majority. e Kabaka’s right to a salute of 9 guns on ceremonial occasions is also provided in the same clause.
